The Government of the Virgin Islands is inviting qualified persons to serve on the BVI Tourist Board in the following representative categories:
1.    Marine Industry
2.    Cruise Tourism
3.    Heritage & Cultural Entertainment
4.    Virgin Gorda Representative
 

Persons who wish to serve on the Committee should be:
a)    deemed to belong to the Virgin Islands by birth or descent; or 
b)    a resident in the Virgin Islands for a minimum of 25 years and holding a certificate of belonger status for the same period
c)    a person of integrity
 

Tourist Board:
The BVI Tourist Board established under section 3 of The Virgin Islands Tourist Board Act is the statutory body responsible for promoting, developing, and enhancing the tourism industry of the Virgin Islands. It works to strengthen the Territory’s image as a premier destination, support tourism businesses, and ensure visitors enjoy a high-quality and memorable experience.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BOARD:
1.    Promote the development, efficiency, and international competitiveness of the Virgin Islands tourism industry, including marketing the Territory as a premier destination.
2.    Provide effective oversight of resources and operations, ensuring strong governance, risk management, internal controls, and compliance with all applicable laws and international standards.
3.    Support and encourage the growth of tourism infrastructure, services, investment, and stakeholder collaboration to strengthen the overall tourism product.
4.    Conduct Board affairs with integrity, objectivity, and appropriate professional skill, ensuring all Members meet and maintain “fit and proper” criteria.
5.    Partner with the Ministry on the development and enforcement of tourism standards and regulatory requirements, and continuous improvement of quality, safety, and service standards across the sector.
6.    Promote workforce development and capacity-building initiatives, collaborating with training institutions, industry partners, and the Ministry to strengthen professional skills, service excellence, and career opportunities within the tourism sector.
7.    Advise the Minister on key policy matters affecting tourism development, strategic priorities, and the Board’s ongoing management and performance.
 

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess a strong professional background and the competencies necessary to support the statutory mandate of the BVI Tourist Board. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in areas such as tourism, hospitality, destination marketing, business management, cultural events, law, public administration, or public-sector leadership. They must be skilled in governance, financial oversight, risk management, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement, and exhibit strong communication and analytical abilities. Knowledge of the Virgin Islands Tourist Board Act, public-sector governance principles, and the Territory’s tourism landscape is essential.
 

RENUMERATION:
Non-public officer members are entitled to remuneration as approved by the Cabinet.
