The Social Development Department proudly joins the community in observing National Caregivers Day, recognising the invaluable contributions of caregivers who serve within the Territory’s aged care services.

Caregivers play a vital role in supporting seniors and vulnerable adults, ensuring they receive compassionate, dignified, and high-quality care. Their daily commitment strengthens families, uplifts residents, and reinforces the Department’s mandate to protect and promote the social well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands.

Programme Director for Aged Care, Trisha Smith-Gomes commended the unwavering commitment and compassion demonstrated by the caregiving team.

Mrs Smith-Gomes said, “Today, we proudly recognise and celebrate all of our incredible caregivers who make a difference in the lives of those we serve each and every day. The dedicated aides featured represent just a few of the many compassionate, skilled, and committed professionals who form the backbone of our aged care services. While only a handful may be pictured, they symbolise an entire team whose kindness, patience, and unwavering support bring comfort, dignity, and joy to our residents and clients.”

She further emphasised that caregiving is not merely a profession, but a calling grounded in empathy, service, and humanity.

Mrs Smith-Gomes added, “Your work does not go unnoticed. The care you provide, the relationships you build, and the moments of reassurance you offer truly matter. You are the foundation of everything we do. On behalf of our leadership team and the families we serve, thank you for your extraordinary dedication and for the compassion you show every single day. Your commitment strengthens families, enriches lives, and reflects the very best of public service.”

The Social Development Department reaffirms its ongoing commitment to supporting caregivers and strengthening aged care services across the Virgin Islands.
