The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development invites the public to attend a Remembrance Ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Fancy Me, one of the most tragic maritime disasters in Virgin Islands history.
The ceremony will take place on Sunday, 26 July 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at Sir Olva Georges Plaza, Road Town, Tortola.
Approximately 59 lives were lost when the Fancy Me sank while returning from the Dominican Republic in 1926. One hundred years later, the Territory pauses to honour the memory of those who perished, reflect on this significant chapter of Virgin Islands history, and pay tribute to the families and communities affected by the tragedy.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and join in this solemn act of remembrance.
