The Premier’s Office is inviting residents of The Virgin Islands to participate in the planning of activities to commemorate 60 Years of Ministerial Government, a significant milestone that will be observed in 2027.

The anniversary marks six decades since the introduction of Ministerial Government following the General Elections of 14 April 1967, when the first ministerial appointments were made. These historic appointments included Honourable H. Lavity Stoutt as the first Chief Minister and Minister for Education; Honourable Ivan Dawson as Minister for Natural Resources and Public Health; and Honourable Terrance B. Lettsome as Minister for Communications, Works and Utilities.

As preparations begin for the commemorative year, the Premier’s Office is seeking the public’s ideas and recommendations on a suitable theme for the celebration, activities and events that should form part of the observance, and individuals who may be interested in assisting with the planning and execution of anniversary events.

Permanent Secretary, Premier’s Office, Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt Igwe, is encouraging residents to contribute to the planning process, noting that the anniversary presents an opportunity to reflect on The Virgin Islands’ political development and honour the leaders whose vision helped shape the Territory’s modern governance framework.

She said the Premier’s Office looks forward to collaborating with the community to ensure a meaningful and memorable celebration of this important milestone in the history of The Virgin Islands.

Members of the public are invited to submit their suggestions by email to premieroffice@gov.vg no later than 31 July, 2026.
