This service allows you to request information about planning applications, decisions, and related actions. By law, the Town and Country Planning Department is required to keep a public record of important planning information, known as the Register of Decisions.
Before you move a single bucket of earth or pour a drop of concrete, you must have an active Building Permit. Safety is a journey, not a destination; therefore, your project requires mandatory inspections at key construction milestones to ensure the work matches your approved plans and BVI safety codes.
Once TCP has verified that a structure has been built in accordance with the approved Plans, then a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) will be issued. The Certificate of Occupancy is your official confirmation that the construction of your building has been completed according to the laws and safety standards of the Virgin Islands. You have secured your permissions, passed your structural reviews, and now, it’s time to finalize the project.
Once you have secured your Planning Outline Permission, or letter of exemption you are required to apply for a Master Permit BEFORE any construction begins. While Planning Permission looks at land use, the Master Permit is a deep dive into the safety, structural integrity, and systems of your building.
This process will involve a detailed review of ALL construction drawings for the proposed project. You cannot break ground or start construction until this permit is issued.
Before commencement of any construction, renovation, or land excavation, you must first obtain Outline Approval to Develop from the Planning Authority via the Town and Country Planning Department (TCPD). This process ensures that all developments are safe, sustainable, and compliant with national land-use standards.
