The Ministry of Communications and Works has issued an update on the West End Ferry Terminal Redevelopment Project. After initial tender bids, approximately sixty-four million ($64,000,000) from a local joint venture and ninety-four million ($94,000,000) from a Canadian firm exceeded the approved budget, the Ministry paused the project with the Caribbean Development Bank’s agreement and completed a full redesign.

The new design, led by international consultants INROS Lackner SE, reduces the building footprint, maintains essential amenities, and includes the necessary reclamation work to ensure site stability while staying within budget. The Ministry acknowledges the public frustration and disappointment caused by the delays of this project and affirms its commitment to moving the project forward, and targets opening the construction tender process later this year. Renderings of the revised design have been released for public viewing.

The full statement can be read on the Government’s website at GOV.VG.

The Ministry of Communications and Works continues to ensure the continued development and maintenance of public infrastructure in keeping with international standards so that public utilities are reliable and affordable in support of an enhanced community life for every resident and visitor in the Virgin Islands.
