Karia Christpher - Acting Governor's Statement
Statement
Release Date: 5 December, 2025

It is with deep sadness that I extend heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mrs. Karia Christopher, an exceptional public officer, a devoted professional, and a cherished member of our Virgin Islands community. Her loss is felt profoundly across the Public Service and throughout the Territory.

Mrs. Christopher’s service to the Government of the Virgin Islands was meaningful, impactful, and enduring. As Director of Communications, she strengthened the voice of government and ensured that clear, responsible, and compassionate communication reached our people. She served with dignity, precision, and an unwavering commitment to the truth.

I was privileged to work alongside her in the Department of Human Resources, where she consistently demonstrated excellence, respect, and a forward-thinking approach to the strengthening of our Public Service. She also led the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs, displaying her ability to champion innovation, support economic development, and help the Virgin Islands to deliver excellence in commerce. Her professionalism was evident in every role, and she worked collaboratively with many other government offices throughout her tenure, leaving a positive and lasting imprint wherever she served.

Mrs. Christopher was also deeply involved in the wider community. She used her talents to bridge gaps, uplift voices, and build trust between the public and the government. Her work reflected a sincere love for these islands and a belief in the potential of every person she encountered.

I offer heartfelt support to Mr. Roberto Christopher, their children Dakota and Hunter and the entire family at this difficult time. We also stand firmly with the Inland Revenue Department, where Mr. Christopher continues to serve as a humble, dedicated, and respected public officer. I extend special comfort to the staff of the Premier’s Office, the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and the Office of the Deputy Governor (Sister Islands Programme) and all other departments and teams that worked closely with her and now feel the deep weight of this loss.

As we reflect on this moment, we must acknowledge the depth of loss felt across the Public Service in recent and past times. Many officers have given their all to this Territory, and their passing leaves a true void in our collective family.

We are a family within the Public Service, and we deeply care for one another. In moments like these, we are reminded of the importance of unity, compassion, and the strength we find in supporting each other through grief and healing.

On behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands and the entire Public Service, I extend deepest sympathy and profound gratitude for the life, legacy, and outstanding service of Mrs. Karia Christopher. May her memory forever inspire us toward excellence, kindness, and unwavering dedication to the Territory she loved.
