Premier Wheatley to Attend UN General Assembly

(Honourable Fraser to Act as Premier)

 

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley, will make a presentation at the 4th Committee during the United Nations General Assembly later this week.

The 80th ordinary session opened on 9th September 2025 and will close on 8th September 2026. The theme is "Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights". According to the United Nations, the Assembly makes recommendations to States on international issues within its competence. It has also taken actions across all pillars of the United Nations, including with regard to political, economic, humanitarian, social, and legal matters.

Premier Wheatley will be absent from the Territory from Monday, 6th October, 2025, to Wednesday, 8th October, 2025 

While Premier Wheatley is away, Honourable Julian Fraser, RA, Deputy Premier and Minister responsible for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, has been appointed to carry out the duties of Premier, Minister of Finance, Minister for Tourism Culture and Sustainable Development, and Minister for Financial Services, Economic Development and Digital Transformation during the period 6th-8th October, 2025

Honourable Fraser's acting appointment is in accordance with Section 55(1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007, which states: "If the Premier is expected to be absent from the Virgin Islands for more than forty-eight hours, the Governor shall authorise the Deputy Premier to perform the functions of the office of Premier; and the Governor shall revoke this authority on the return to the Virgin Islands of the Premier."
