The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change is seeking five applicants for the position of Member of the Appeals Tribunal, as established under the Physical Planning Act, 2004.

In accordance with Section 65(2) of the VI Physical Planning Act, 2004, the principal responsibility of the Appeals Tribunal is to examine issues between the Planning Authority and applicants to determine the merit of appeals to ensure consistency in the execution of policy and any approved development plan relevant to the issues.

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree; Training and experience in physical planning, architecture, engineering, environmental, coastal and marine matters or law, or such other training and experience as the minister thinks fit; A demonstrable understanding of the physical and land development, or comparable equivalent experience of at least ten (10) years of experience in planning, architecture, building designs, building engineering, environmental designs; Fifteen (15) years in the respective professional fields, of which at least 8 years’ experience shall be as a resident and a professional in the Virgin Islands.

Person selected on the Board shall be a resident of the Virgin Islands.  Successful applicants shall be prepared to commit to serve for not less than two (2) years nor more than four (4) years in the first instance. Upon completion of the first term, a member, as specified in their instrument of appointment, shall be eligible for reappointment. No re-appointed member shall hold office for more than six (6) years consecutively, and appointments shall have staggered dates of expiration.

As perspective Board members, applicants must be committed to meet at least once monthly and at such other times as may be necessary for the performance of duties, at such places and times and on such dates as the Authority may determine.

The post is stipend-based remuneration contingent on attendance and participation in meetings.
