STATEMENT FROM THE NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL
Armed Robbery at House of Luxury
The National Security Council (NSC) held its weekly meeting today under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Acting Governor, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr.
During the meeting, the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Richard Ullger, briefed the Council on, among other criminal related matters, the ongoing investigation and search efforts related to the armed robbery that occurred yesterday at the House of Luxury in the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.
The NSC strongly condemned this brazen act of violence and expressed serious concern that such an incident took place in the afternoon while patrons were present on the compound and potentially unaware of the danger.
The Council fully supports the ongoing investigation by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF). The NSC urges the public to remain calm, avoid approaching the suspects, and report any information directly to the police or to Crime Stoppers.
The NSC also assures the business community and the wider public that enhanced crime-prevention measures will be implemented throughout the upcoming Christmas shopping season. At the same time, the Council encourages businesses and residents to take appropriate steps to safeguard their property and personal safety.
The Acting Commissioner of Police will provide a public briefing tomorrow, Thursday, 4th December, with an update on the progress of the investigation.
The NSC continues to call on the public to support the police in preventing and detecting crime. Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact the police, call Crime Stoppers, or use the confidential and untraceable hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS), 800-847-8477, or 368-9339.
The NSC is responsible for matters concerning internal security and major developments affecting the safety of the Territory. It is chaired by the Governor and includes as members the Premier, the Minister for Communications and Works, the Attorney General, and the Commissioner of Police. The Cabinet Secretary facilitates the Council’s operations.
