The Water and Sewerage Department has announced that the Hannah Hill Reservoir, which supports water distribution to Sea Cows Bay, Palestina, and Pock Wood Pond, is now in the final stages of commissioning.

The reservoir has been repaired and successfully tested for leaks. It has also been thoroughly sanitised in accordance with the required procedures. As part of the final commissioning process, the reservoir will be completely emptied and flushed to remove any residual water and ensure that the system is ready to receive water suitable for potable use.

Director of the Water and Sewerage Department Mr. Lyndon Hodge has indicated that the flushing process is scheduled to begin on Monday 28 September 2026. Following completion, the reservoir will be refilled and recommissioned for reintegration into the water-distribution infrastructure. He added that the entire process is expected to take approximately 48 to 72 hours.

Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer is assuring the public that water will not be released for consumption until the necessary operational and public-health requirements have been completed. Appropriate checks and testing will be undertaken to confirm that the water meets the applicable standards for potable use before the reservoir is returned to service. “This work marks an important step toward resolving the longstanding water-supply challenges experienced by residents and end users in the affected communities. We thank the public for its patience, cooperation, and understanding as we complete this essential work. Further updates will be provided as the commissioning process progresses.” Minister Rymer said.

The finalisation and reintegration of the Hannah Hill reservoir is a part of the Ministry of Communication and Works priority projects that are being executed through the Water and Sewerage Department to address the water challenges that resulted in water being declared a national critical priority.

The Water and Sewerage Department continues to ensure the provision of a continuous supply of safe, potable water and an environmentally sound sewerage disposal service to all residents of the Virgin Islands, efficiently and at affordable rates.
