Session held 10th October, 2025

Tortola, Virgin Islands - The Department of Labour and Workforce Development successfully hosted the second installment of its Men’s Career Success Session, bringing together thirteen participants for an impactful two-hour discussion focused on employment readiness, professional growth, and community empowerment.

The session was facilitated by a distinguished panel of presenters, including Dr. Michael Turnbull, Mr. Dave Smith, Mr. Guy Hill, Chef Mike Bogans, and Mr. Julian Willock. Also in attendance were Ag. Labour Commissioner, Mr. Mervin Hasting, Labour Relations Officer, Mr. Devern Davis, and Assistant Labour Officer, Mr. Leonardo Callwood, demonstrating the Department’s strong commitment to supporting the advancement of men in the workforce.

This initiative, first launched in 2024, continues to provide a platform for meaningful conversations around employment strategies, career building, and personal development. The previous session was led by Dr. Turnbull alongside Mr. St. Clair Flemming.

Participants described the session as “very informative and beneficial.” One attendee, Mr. Richards, who participated for the second time, commended the Department for continuing the initiative and noted the high quality of the discussions. Another participant shared that he hopes to see similar sessions expanded into other communities, allowing more men across the territory to benefit. While one participant suggested the session could be slightly shorter, overall feedback was positive and encouraging.

Importantly, the session also created real employment opportunities. One participant left with a scheduled job interview, and two others were invited to prepare and submit their résumés to a private business in Road Town - highlighting the program’s practical, results-driven impact.

The Department of Labour and Workforce Development remains committed to supporting men in their pursuit of professional success and strengthening the overall workforce of the Virgin Islands. Plans are underway to continue these sessions and expand outreach to more communities.
