BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS PORTS AUTHORITY

The BVI Ports Authority is of critical value to the Virgin Islands Economy. It helps to facilitate business continuity through ports and shipping, which are an essential part of the socio-economic environment of this Territory.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is seeking qualified persons to fill the following positions:

CHAIRPERSON                   

The Chairperson leads the strategic governance of port operations across the Territory. This includes oversight of harbour services, port facilities, stevedoring, warehousing, cargo handling, and marine infrastructure, all delivered under the authority of the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority.

Persons applying to serve as Chairperson of the Board should have the professional competencies that exemplify integrity, respect and a balance of skills and experience that match the purpose, mission and values of the Authority.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATES EMBODY THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES:

  1. Strong leadership skills and experience in sectors directly relevant to the Authority’s functions and responsibilities.
  2. Clear understanding of the industry, Authority and the needs of its stakeholders.
  3. Proven experience in governance, strategic management, maritime operations, or public administration.
  4. Ability to preside over Board meetings and guide strategic policy-setting and oversight.
  5. Ensuring alignment with legislative mandates and the Ministry’s strategic objectives.
  6. Partner with Board members to ensure that all Board resolutions are carried out and that actions to achieve the Authority’s strategic goals are successfully undertaken.
  7. Uphold financial stewardship, transparent governance, and operational excellence across all ports.
  8. Develop a good working relationship with other Board members and senior management of the Authority.

TRAINING/SKILL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

The Chairperson must have visionary leadership to guide the BVI Ports Authority through modernisation and resilience-building. In addition, they must possess commercial  experience  and acumen within a substantial private sector business or past public sector experience ideally from a relevant environment in the field of expertise which may include: maritime, property, regeneration, leisure and tourism, finance, law, economics, management, among other related business sector leadership.
