The Premier of the Virgin Islands, Honourable Dr. Natalio Wheatley, today laid in the House of Assembly the deliberations on the Constitutional Review Commission (2022 to 2023) Report, titled 'A Report of the Committee of the Whole House'. This significant step occurred during the Second Sitting of the Third Session of the Fifth House of Assembly.
The tabling marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing constitutional review process. It provides a comprehensive summary of the Commission's findings and recommendations from its 2022-2023 report. The report reflects extensive consultations and discussions aimed at strengthening the territory's governance framework, enhancing democratic processes, and addressing key priorities for the people of the Virgin Islands.
Premier Wheatley emphasised the importance of this milestone, stating, "This report represents the collective position of the democratically elected members of the House of Assembly, after having in depth deliberations on the Constitutional Review Commission's Report. Our careful consideration of each of the Commission's recommendation has resulted in a negotiation position that is progressive, forward looking, and transformative. By tabling this report today, we commit to transparent dialogue and meaningful reforms that uphold our shared values and aspirations as a people."
